01 / The Substrate
Graded with architectural intent.
Every collection begins at the mill, where raw American walnut and European oak are sorted by grade. For tailored MODA and NEVE projects, grading is selected in dialogue with the architecture. Whether a space calls for the quiet restraint of contemporary select, the warmth of casual grain, or the character of rustic heartwood, the raw timber forms the stable platform beneath every finish we craft.
02 / Tactile Topography
Brushing the grain to reveal direction.
Before color is introduced, the timber is brushed to remove the soft, porous grain. Leaving the dense grain behind gives each board natural visual direction and subtle depth underfoot. The intensity of brushing is calibrated to the project — from a light texture that softens glare to a deeper grain relief.
03 / The Chemical Dialogue
Color awakened from within.
We avoid stains and dyes that mask the surface. Instead, the wood undergoes a multi-step hand finishing process using natural mineral formulas that recreate centuries of elemental aging. By reacting directly with the tannins in the timber, we change the color of the wood itself. We don’t cover the grain — we draw out the depth already present within.
04 / Plant-Derived Protection
Zero-VOC seal. Low-luster resilience.
Once the desired tone is achieved, the boards are sealed with a zero-VOC natural plant-extract finish. It acts as a hybrid system: deeply penetrating the fiber while providing durable surface protection with a subtle, low-luster matte glow. Other protective topcoats are available depending on project specifications.
